(3:38) In thinking about how to frame today's piece, I went through ideas like "hangover music", "hold music from hell"...it's a Percy Faith tune, clipped from WLW's aircheck of November 22, 1963. Yep, if you were one of the first to hear the President was shot, and you turned on your radio, this is the sort of soothing/sinister music you heard while they figured out how to tell people Jack Kennedy was dying in the ER at Parkland Hospital. Presented in all its low-fi glory (I'm guessing, recorded open reel at 1 & 7/8 ips).It required a little editing-- they kept playing it over and over, with interruptions, President shot, blah blah blah, that kind of thing. It's creepy enough to come up in some other use later, perhaps. Here it is now, anyway, in the context of 2011 slipping away with all the other years since then.
